Dragon Boating Club

Central Lake in Eastport & Lake Sumpter Landing

This Boat Rocks! (TBR) is the largest co-ed team in the Grand Masters Dragon Boat Club (GMDBC). Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Villagers paddle in rhythm across the sparkling waters of Central Lake and Lake Sumter.

We look forward to being on the water with fellow paddlers in a friendly, encouraging atmosphere. More than just a team, we’re a social club that gathers throughout the year – where many lasting friendships begin at the dock.

Susan Chicoine founded TBR in June 2012 and was its heartbeat for many years. As she said, “We teach the commands and techniques, but this group is all about exercise and fun.” Groups like the Leathernecks joined in and went on to compete successfully against much younger teams. Dragon boating in The Villages is open to all levels – from beginners to seasoned paddlers. For one group, the orange T-shirt says it all: “This Boat Rocks!

Signups are now open for the TBR beginner training classes at Central Lake

So, How Does This Work?

Participants must have a valid Villages ID and can sign up for 3 training sessions with This Boat Rocks coaching staff. Each session includes 15 minutes of on-land instruction followed by 35 to 45 minutes of on the water paddling and coaching.

Sessions

Wednesdays & Fridays, 9:30–10:30 a.m.
Tip: Sign up for consecutive dates to get the most from your training.

After three free sessions, continue with This Boat Rocks as a fun exercise team, train for the competitive team, or reach out to other teams on the Grand Masters Dragon Boat Club website for a tryout.
